Roger NELLENS (1937-1960)
Roger Nellens est né à Liège le 11 mai 1937. Cet artiste autodidacte commence à peindre en 1960. Ses premières œuvres sont influencées par Permeke. Par la suite, il subit l’influence de Delvaux et représente des trains et des signaux. A partir de 1969, il crée des “machines imaginaires” qui vont caractériser toute sa production et rejoindre l’iconographie de Picabia, Duchamp, Ernst ou Tinguely. En 1976, il peint “Le Tropolitain” pour la station de métro “Gribaumont” à Bruxelles.
Roger Nellens was born in Liège on May 11, 1937. This self-taught artist, he began painting in 1960. His first works were influenced by Permeke. Subsequently, he was influenced by Delvaux and represented trains and signals. From 1969, he created “imaginary machines” which would characterize all his production and join the iconography of Picabia, Duchamp, Ernst or Tinguely. In 1976, he painted “Le Tropolitain” for the “Gribaumont” metro station in Brussels.
